Xen Project Developer and Design Summit: NEC’S presentation about Unikraft

Sharan Santhanam and Felipe Huici (from NEC Laboratories), partners of the UNICORE Consortium, have participated at The Xen Project Developer and Design Summit on July 6th. It was a virtual event that lasted for 3 days, from July 6th to July 9th.

The Xen Project Developer and Design Summit brings together the Xen Project’s community of developers and power users for their annual developer conference. The conference is about sharing ideas and the latest developments, sharing experience, planning, collaboration and above all to have fun and to meet the community that defines the Xen Project.

Santhanam and Huici, in their Keynote Session “Unikraft Weather Report”, explained how Unikraft Xen Incubation Project has matured enormously over the past year. They gave a “weather report”, touching on a number of the key new features of Unikraft, including support for a number of languages (C++, Go, Python, Web Assembly, Lua, JavaScript, Ruby), support for ARM64, netfront and frontblock drivers as well as a companion tool greatly simplifying the building and running of its images. Finally, they presented a number of performance measurements showcasing the benefits of using Unikraft guests, and they touched upon a number of security features they’re adding in order to hardened Unikraft.
